Police in the central province of Binh Thuan Province on Wednesday arrested a man suspected of kidnapping a boy and killing him while waiting for a ransom.
Nguyen Bao Vu, 24, reportedly admitted to killing the 11-year-old boy on Monday evening.
Vu, a close friend of the victim’s brother, said the boy kept crying and he was afraid of getting caught.
Initial investigation found the boy did not come home from his extra night class on Monday. The family received a call at midnight.
The kidnapper demanded VND200 million (US$9,000) but later agreed to bring it down to VND120 million.

They then informed the police of his missing.
Police identified Vu as a prime suspect and interrogated him after he kept showing up at the boy's house, asking about the boy. An officer said Vu's attention was "unusual."
Based on his confession, police found the victim's body buried at a hill, around 10 kilometers from his home.
