Police in the northern province of Quang Ninh Monday said they have found 11 people stealing hundreds of thousands of liters of diesel from the state-owned coal and mineral firm Vinacomin.

The company provides fuel for its coal trucks, and some employees in charge of filling diesel colluded with drivers to sell part of it to a local man, who resold it to local gas stations.

The employees would give the drivers three fourths of the quantity signed for and deliver the rest to the man, Do Van Quyet.

On September 5 the police caught two women from the company, Tran Minh Ngoc and Nguyen Hai Linh, and three drivers, Vu Van Luon, Nguyen Xuan Thu, and Bui Duy Hung, pumping nearly 1,000 liters of diesel into a secret pipe leading to Quyet's house.

Police followed the pipe, which was more than 10 cm across, for around 800 m and found it leading to barrels of diesel at Quyet's house.

Further investigations are underway.

All 11 people face charges of embezzlement, the police said.
