Ho Chi Minh City police are investigating the death of a 10-year-old boy who allegedly drowned in a water park during a trip organized by his school Friday.
Lam Nguyen Quoc Binh, a fourth grader of Phuoc Thanh Primary School in District 9, joined more than 300 schoolmates in the excursion trip to Dam Sen Water Park in District 11 on Friday morning.
But at around 11 a.m. he was rushed to Cho Ray Hospital, and was soon pronounced that he had been dead for about 30 minutes before arrival.
Binh was wearing only underpants when he was brought to the hospital.
Doctors said he allegedly died from drowning, but teachers who accompanied him did not speculate on how he died.
Lam Sinh Hao, Binh’s father, said the family had been informed by the school via telephone that Binh had died at noon.
Twenty-two teachers, 10 maids and the school’s principal reportedly took part in the excursion trip along with the students.
On Friday afternoon, police in District 11 arrived at the Cho Ray Hospital and examined Binh’s body before handling it to his family.
The police said they are still investigating the death.
