Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and Agence Française de Développement (AFD) on November 9 signed a US$100 million agreement to finance the Huoi Quang Hydropower project.

The agreement, signed by Dinh Quang Tri, vice-president of EVN and Martha Stein-Sochas, director of the Asian Department at AFD, will generate up to 520 MW of electricity upon completion.

The Huoi Quang Hydropower Plant, on Nam Mu River (Lai Chau Province) in north-west Vietnam, is one of the priority projects listed in the 6th master plan for power development in Vietnam.

The first turbine will go into operation in December 2014; the second in April 2015.
