Police in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang Saturday arrested around 100 people after raiding an illegal cockfighting ring, news website VnExpress reported.

They included Vo Trung Du and Vo Thi Phuong Dung, the couple behind the show.

When around 100 officers stormed into the ring in Vinh Huu Commune, Go Cong Tay District, everyone gathered there tried to escape by jumping into a nearby river.

But they were caught along with roosters, dozens of motorbikes and knives, and around VND100 million in cash.

Colonel Dang Quang Minh, chief of Tien Giang Province investigation police department in charge of social order, said the ring, situated in a large orchard owned by Dung's father, had been set up several weeks ago.

It attracted 300 people every day who bet on the cockfighting, he said.

Dung and Du are being held for investigation into "organizing gambling," while the others face charges of "gambling."
