10 suspended as part of Vietnam market fire probe

Officials investigating the fire that destroyed the largest market in the central province of Quang Ngai have suspended ten members of the market's management board.

Le Minh Huan, chief of the Quang Ngai People's Committee's office, said Tuesday that the members, including Director Tran Quang Vinh, and his subordinate, vice director Nguyen Duc Vinh, will be suspended for three months.

Others suspended include seven security guards and one technician, he said

On February 9, a fire broke out at Quang Ngai Market and spread very quickly.

It was not extinguished for more than six hours, after nearly all the goods of 424 traders were destroyed with damages estimated at VND200 billion ($9.6 million).

However, no casualties were recorded.

The investigation continues.
