The Vietnamese police Monday detained 10 people including two Chinese for allegedly smuggling 1,650 tons of gasoline into the country instead of exporting the consignment as licensed.

On July 28 they found three boats illegally loading the fuel from a Cambodian boat off Nam Dinh Province.

The Cambodian boat was supposed to transport the A92 gas to China, but sold it to Vietnamese buyers.

The arrested include Chen Xing Chun and Long Guang Kun, the Chinese captain and mechanic of the Cambodian boat.

Six of the eight Vietnamese were also captains and mechanics of the three Vietnamese vessels, while the other two are employees of Hoang Son, a local marine transport company that owns the boats.
