Ho Chi Minh City police arrested 15 alleged drug dealers and addicts during a raid into a notorious alley in Binh Thanh District on Thursday.
They initially established that 10 of the 15 people are drug dealers.
The raid began at around 2 p.m. on Wednesday with hundreds of armed police officers wearing bulletproof vests storming into the alley on 72 Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street.
They blocked entrance to the area and brought sniffer dogs to six houses, allegedly belonging to retail drug traders, to conduct searches.
Meanwhile, traffic police officers and militiamen surrounded the houses to prevent hundreds of curious residents from sneaking into the blocked area and regulate traffic in the alley.
By the end of the day, police finished the search and brought a number of plastic packs containing drugs out of the houses.
They declined to reveal details of the case, saying it is still under investigation.
They said the raid was made after they received complaints about rampant drug trading and using in the alley, which is already notorious for housing many drug addicts.
