Ten people were killed and four are injured after a truck overturned on a mountain in the central province of Nghe An on Wednesday.
The truck carrying smuggled timber with 14 people onboard was traveling on the Pu Uot Mountain in Con Cuong District when it overturned at around 3:50 a.m.
Seven people died on the spot. After rescuers rushed to the scene, they took the injured to hospital, but three died on the way.
The four injured people are in critical condition, according to local authorities.
The owner of the timber load fled the district after the accident, online newspaper Dan Tri reported.
The identities of the deceased and injured people are not known.
Eyewitnesses said the truck was overloaded with timber and when it overturned, timber weighed down on the people.
It took a lot of effort for rescuers to pull the injured people out from under the timber pile.
The case is being investigated.
