A 54-seater bus is reduced to ashes after the collision.
Ten people are dead and more than 20 were injured after a container truck crashed into a bus and caught on fire on a national highway in the central province of Binh Thuan early Monday.
At around 2 a.m., the container truck crashed into a bus traveling in the opposite direction on Highway 1A. The bus was slightly damaged and no injuries were reported.
Shortly after the collision, the truck lost control and continued to crash into a 54-seater bus.
The 54-seater bus then burst into flames and reduced to ashes, with only the iron frame remaining. Eight passengers died on the spot. Two other passengers died after being taken to the hospital.
Among the dead victims are the drivers of the truck and the 54-seater bus.
Twenty-one passengers were injured, many of them seriously. They are being treated at the Binh Thuan General Hospital.
According to local authorities, not all of the deceased could be identified because some were burned beyond recognition.
Local police said there were no children on the bus.
Initial investigations showed the truck driver, whose identity was not known, had been speeding and encroached into the wrong lane at the time of the accident, newswire VnExpress reported.
