A Ho Chi Minh City boarding house collapsed after a gas cylinder used to fill balloons exploded on Friday

One person was killed and four others, including an eight-year-old, were seriously injured, when a gas cylinder used to fill balloons exploded at a boarding house in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday.
Dang Van Xuan Le, 54, a witness, told Thanh Nien that around 9 p.m. he heard a big explosion when he was in his house in Go Vap District, and saw a fire blazing in the nearby boarding house when he rushed outside.
He then saw Nguyen Thi Thao, 26, running out of the house, crying, adding that her head was burned and her body was covered in blood.
Le said local people did not dare to enter the house, which had crumpled in a tangle of electric wires, for fear of being electrocuted.
Only after power in the whole neighborhood was cutdid Le enter with a flashlight. Meanwhile, someone brought three fire extinguishers.
Le found a crying girl and took her outside.
Another witness said some locals found Nguyen Van Tam, 25, dead with a wall collapsed on his lower body.
Nguyen Van The, 23, who was also buried under a fallen wall, but was still alive, and locals were able to pull him out.
Around 20 minutes after the explosion, two firefighting trucks from the Go Vap District police division arrived.
They found three gas cylinders used to fill balloons there, one of which had exploded.
Initial information was that the 40-square-meter boarding house was home to some ten people who sell balloons and toys in the street.
Five people were in the house when the accident took place.
Police are investigating the cause of blast.
