Police in Quang Ngai Province on Friday arrested five men who allegedly stopped several cars traveling on a national highway to ask for money, causing a series of accidents that killed one and badly injured three others.
The group of five reportedly rode three motorbikes in front of several cars on the National Highway 1A on the same day, blatantly demanding the car drivers to pay them some money.
At a section near Binh Son District, the group suddenly stopped, forcing the vehicles behind them to come to an abrupt halt and causing multiple crashes.
The most serious collision involved a taxi, which was hit from behind by a truck and crashed straight into another truck in front of it.
The taxi was badly damaged and one of the passengers was killed. The taxi driver and two other passengers were badly injured.
Further investigations are ongoing.
