A head-on collision between a car and a passenger bus has become the latest accident on an expressway that links Hanoi and the northern province of Lao Cai, leaving one dead and three others seriously injured on Friday.
The victims, who were of the same family, were in the four-seater car heading to Hanoi when it crashed into the bus, according to initial information from the manager of the 245-kilometer road.
The car driver died on the spot, while other victims were rushed to a hospital in Yen Bai Province, where they have been receiving treatment.
It was not immediately clear how the crash happened, as well as the conditions of the involved bus and its passengers .
The expressway, currently the longest in Vietnam, has recorded many accidents since it opened to traffic in September last year.
The US$1.5-billion expressway has four lanes and allows the maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour now, lower than the designed speed of 120 kilometers per hour.
