A farmer was killed and six others were injured after lightening struck his mobile phone in the northwestern province of Dien Bien, on Sunday, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The victims were all harvesting rice in a mountainous village in Dien Bien District at around 4:30 pm when it suddenly began to rain.
As the rain fell, the mobile of Lo Van Chung, 31, rang. As soon as Chung answered the phone, a bolt of lightening struck him dead on the spot.
Six farmers sitting nearby were also injured.
Neighbors rushed the inured to a nearby medical center for first aid.
Of the victims, a woman named Lo Thi Thanh and a man named Luong Van Dien, both 33, suffered severe burns and were transferred to Dien Bien Province General Hospital.
The other four suffered minor burns and were released after receiving first-aid.
On April 8, a local woman named Lo Thi Thanh in Dien Bien’s Muong Ang District was also struck by lightning while speaking on her mobile phone. Eight others were also injured.
