1 dead, 5 severely injured in Vietnam bus-truck collision

One person was killed and five others were seriously injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a container truck in the north-central province of Ha Tinh early Friday.

The accident happened at around 2 a.m. when the passenger bus driven by Huynh Ly Kim Cuong, 41, hit the truck driven by Nguyen Van Huynh, 37, at the conjunction of National Highways 1A and 8B in Xuan An town, Ha Tinh Province.

The crash tossed the truck on its side and into a high-voltage electric pole.

The bus driver's assistant, whose name was not known, died on the spot. Cuong and four passengers were seriously injured.

Huynh and his assistant sustained slight injuries.

The names of the other victims are not known.

Both vehicles were badly damaged.

The police are investigating the cause of the accident.
