A woman was killed and three others injured when a car crashed into two motorbikes in a street near the backpacker area in downtown Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday night.
Eyewitnesses said they saw a speeding Mitsubishi sedan hit a motorbike from behind at the intersection of Le Lai and Nguyen Thi Nghia streets in District 1 at around 11 p.m.
Ho Chu Nha, the bike driver, was thrown onto the road and broke his shoulder bones.
His girlfriend Chau Lam Que Tran, 29, fell to the ground and was dragged about 10 meters under the car. She died on the spot.
The vehicle continued to crash into another motorbike before plunging into a tree on the sidewalks and stopped.
A young woman who drove the bike sustained minor injuries.
Nguyen Thanh Binh, the 42-year-old driver of the car, sustained serious head injuries. He and the two injured victims were rushed to hospital.
The car was badly damaged in the accident.
It was towed away from the site at 1:30 a.m. Friday.
Police are still investigating.
