Deputy PM Vu Khoan (R) and Ms Misako Konno, Goodwill Ambassador of the UNDP.
Vietnam pays due attention to hunger elimination, poverty reduction, and living conditions in rural areas, Deputy PM Vu Khoan said Monday in a meeting with the UNDP’s Goodwill Ambassador.

Vietnam has also implemented the rights of children successfully as well as facilitated Vietnamese women to promote their role in society, he said in a meeting with Ms Misako Konno, Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), who was on a working visit to Vietnam.

Ambassador Konno, who is also a Japanese actress and writer, expressed deep interest in Vietnam's social issues and cultural values.

The Deputy PM introduced Vietnam's issues of concern to the UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, including hunger elimination and poverty reduction, public health care services against bird flu, administrative reform, and human resource training.

He thanked the UNDP for its effective assistance to Vietnam in addressing social issues in the recent past.

The ambassador's visit would contribute to promoting relations between Vietnam and the United Nations as well as between Vietnam and Japan, Khoan stressed.
