The World Bank and the Government Inspectorate awarded VND9.2 billion (US$450,000) to 34 anti-corruption initiatives for the first-ever Vietnam Anti-Corruption Initiative Program (VACI) Wednesday.
This year's VACI focused on innovative ideas that would strengthen public integrity and laws for effective anti-corruption action, especially at the local level.
The program co-organized by the Government Inspectorate and the World Bank with support from bilateral donors supports innovative ideas to minimize corruption, strengthen transparency, and bring a better living environment to the people.
Victoria Kwakwa, World Bank Country Director in Vietnam, noted that the competition attracted proposals from NGOs, the private sector, educational institutions, local authorities and other non-traditional parties, suggesting a strong, shared interest in the fight against corruption, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The second VACI will be held in 2013.
