The Government Inspectorate confirmed in a press briefing Thursday that one of its inspectors was arrested earlier this month for alleged fraud.
Ngo Van Khanh, deputy chief inspector, said Nguyen Tien Dung, 35, was arrested by Hanoi police at a coffee shop on July 7.
According to a Thanh Nien source, Dung was arrested along with another man while they were receiving VND100 million (US$4,584) from a Hanoi resident.
Khanh told the press the arrest had nothing to do with Dung’s professional work. However, the Government Inspectorate suspended him as soon as it was informed of the arrest, he said.
“It was a bitter lesson for us in terms of staff training,” he said.
