Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang and Party General Secretary and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith on Tuesday discussed ways to boost bilateral ties during their meeting in Hanoi.
Vorachith affirmed that the Lao Party, the state and its people will do their best, together with their Vietnamese counterparts, to deepen the traditional friendship and comprehensive solidarity of the two countries.
He invited the Vietnamese President to visit Laos in the coming time.
President Quang, for his part, asked for Laos’ support in the East Sea issue, as well as the sustainable and effective use and management of water resources in the Mekong River.
Quang thanked the Lao government for helping Vietnam cope with the current severe drought and saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta region.
Laos has released water from its dams to the Mekong River since late March.
The Vietnamese leader vowed to help Laos fulfill its role as ASEAN Chair this year.
He also promised to visit Laos in the near future.
