A delegation of Vietnamese officials attended funerals on Sunday for four Laotian officials who were killed in the crash of a military aircraft the day before.
Led by Le Hong Anh, a senior member of the Communist Party's decision-making body Politburo, the group placed flowers and offered condolences to the families of the deceased, the Laotian government and the Party.
On Saturday, an air force plane carrying at least 14 passenger crashed in the mountainous northeastern province of Xiangkhouang after leaving the capital, Vientiane.
Among those confirmed dead were Defense Minister Douangchay Phichit, Minister of Public Security Thongbanh Seng-aphone, Mayor of Vientiane Soukanh Mahalath, and Secretariat of Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Cheuang Sombounkhanh, Lao News Agency reported.
Local agencies are investigating the cause of the accident as rescue efforts remain underway.
