The East Sea's security and the Agent Orange's consequences were discussed at a dialogue between Vietnam and the US in Washington D.C. on Friday, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The two countries' fourth dialogue on politics and national defense also addressed many other areas like disaster relief, rescue and search, and seeking the missing from the Vietnam War, according to a high-ranking official from the US State Department.
It was the first time the US and Vietnam discussed specific measures to upgrade their bilateral relations to strategic partnership level, according to the official.
Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh led the delegation, which included officials of national defense and public security.
Meanwhile, the US delegation, led by Andrew J. Shapiro, Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs, included officials from the Department of Defense and other agencies.
