Vietnam will join other ASEAN countries at a regional defense meeting to be held in Cambodia late this month.
Cambodia on Tuesday announced it will host the ninth ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces Informal Meeting between March 28-30.
The annual meeting will be preceded by the ASEAN Military Intelligence Informal Meeting and the ASEAN Military Operations Informal Meeting between March 26-28, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
Lieutenant General Nem Sowath, head of policy and foreign affairs at Cambodia's Ministry of National Defense, said "These meetings will focus on further enhancing mutual military cooperation among ASEAN member states in order to bring security and safety to the whole region towards the realization of an ASEAN community by 2015."
He said in the upcoming meeting, the army chiefs are expected to adopt a Joint Statement to further strengthen cooperation amongst ASEAN militaries.
The meeting was last year held in Jakarta and in 2010 in Hanoi.
ASEAN, which is short for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
