Vietnam plans to issue electronic passports by the end of 2011 in a move to prevent forgery in line with a project recently approved by the Prime Minister.

Each e-passport will include an integrated circuit or chip storing its owners' information as well as statistics about their relatives.

The country plans to discontinue the issuance of traditional passports by 2015, the government said on its website.

E-passports are now being used by 45 countries around the world, according to the government website.
