Vietnam will celebrate Sea and Island Week this year in six provinces and cities from June 1-8, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment announced at a press conference Tuesday.
The annual event will include a human chain of 3,000 youngsters who will form a map of Vietnam and sing the national anthem on a beach in the central province of Khanh Hoa.
Locals and tourists will participate in a beach-cleaning drive in Nha Trang. The ministry will also organize an exhibition of sea resources from the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelagos.
First held in 2009, the event aims to raise awareness about the importance of sea and islands in protecting and developing the country.
