Vietnam's President Truong Tan Sang began a two-day trip to
Sri Lanka on Thursday after wrapping up his visit in India.
During the visit, made at the invitation of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse, Sang will meet with the country's leaders and witness the signing of several agreements between ministries and other agencies of both countries, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
Upon their arrival at the Bandaranaike Airport in Colombo, the island nation's capital, the Vietnamese president and his entourage were welcomed by the Sri Lankan President and other local officials, the news agency said.
Sang's visit to Sri Lanka followed a three-day visit to India during which agreements were signed between the two countries to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields, including an oil and gas three-year pact between India-owned ONGC Videsh Ltd. and Vietnam Oil & Gas Group (PetroVietnam).
