Vietnam's Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung told Southeast Asian leaders on Sunday that China had “brazenly” deployed an oil rig backed by military vessels and aircraft into Vietnamese waters, seriously endangering the international freedom of navigation.

Vietnam had acted with “utmost restraint” and used all diplomatic channels to formally request that China withdraw its rig, Dung said during an ASEAN summit in Myanmar.

China has failed to respond to Vietnam's demands, he said, and instead has slandered Vietnam while increasing its violations in a more dangerous and serious manner.
