Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung led a delegation to Buenos Aires Thursday, beginning his official visit to Argentina, the government said in a report on its website.
The visit indicated Vietnam's determination to strengthen its relationship with Latin America and Argentina, the government website said.
Vietnam and Argentina established diplomatic relations in 1973. Since then the two countries have signed many agreements to promote cooperation in various sectors including trade, agriculture, technology and energy.
Trade between Vietnam and Argentina surged to US$634 million last year, from $400 million in 2008. Vietnamese exports were mostly of garment, footwear, rubber, furniture and food products.
Argentina, the third largest economy in Latin America, posted a 0.9 percent economic growth last year as it was affected by the global financial crisis. The economy expanded 8.2 percent on average in the 2003-2008 period.
