Vietnam will send aid worth US$100,000 to China's Qinghai province that has suffered thousands of casualties since a powerful earthquake hit it last Wednesday.

A Ministry of Foreign Affairs representative announced the aid at a meeting with the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi on Thursday.

The Chinese representative at the meeting expressed gratitude for Vietnam's support to China in its efforts to recover from the earthquake, saying it was an expression of the friendship between both countries.

The 6.9 magnitude quake that hit high up on the Tibetan plateau killed at least 2,187 people, including over 200 schoolchildren, and left another 80 missing, AFP reported on Friday.
