Vietnam Party leader welcomes new Chinese envoy

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong Sunday welcomed newly-appointed Chinese ambassador to Vietnam, Kong Xuanyou, in Hanoi Friday, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

At the meeting held at the Party Committee's headquarters, Trong stressed that Vietnam-China relations which was normalized 20 years ago, needs to be strengthened and developed.

The countries need to solve current issues in their relations with consideration to each country's benefit and international laws, among other factors, Trong was quoted as saying.

Over the years although the relationship has undergone many challenges, it has made significant achievements, making the countries become partners, he said.

He expressed his expectation that Kong will make effective and practical contributions to the countries' relationship during his term in office, VNA reported.

Kong pledged that he would try his best to improve Vietnam-China cooperation in every field.

At the meeting, the Vietnamese leader also congratulated the Chinese ambassador and embassy in Vietnam on the occasion of 62nd anniversary of China's Independence Day (October 1).
