Vietnam Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong Thursday visited Guangdong Province on Thursday as part of his ongoing trip to China, Vietnam News Agency reported.

Meting with leaders of the province, Trong proposed that Vietnamese provinces and Guangdong keep strengthening cooperation in economy, trade, science and technology.

He also hoped that Guangdong will continue paying attention to the preservation of the relics of Vietnam's history and culture there, the news agency reported.

According to a report on the government website, last year the trade value between Guangdong and Vietnamese provinces topped US$5.8 billion, and within the first eight months of this year it had increased by 38 percent.

Later that day Trong and the delegation paid a visit to the relic site of the Vietnam Association of Revolutionary Youths and Comrades, which later became the Communist Party of Vietnam, in Guangzhou province.

VNA said Trong also visited the Panyu Energy-saving Park, and met with the officials of Vietnam general consulate based in Guangzhou.
