Vietnam has opposed a China’s marine functional zoning plan that includes Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands.
“Vietnam has repeatedly reaffirmed its indisputable sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelagos,” said Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Le Hai Binh.
"All foreign activities in these areas without Vietnam’s permission are illegal and against international law, violating Vietnam’s sovereignty and thus, null and void."
Binh made the statement on September 23 in response to reporters’ inquiry about the publication of the plan by the Chinese State Council on main functional areas in the waters.
“Vietnam resolutely opposes the action and demands China respect Vietnam’s sovereignty, stop the wrongdoing, and practically contribute to the friendship and cooperation between the two countries and the maintenance of peace and stability in the East Sea,” he said.
