Vietnam opened a new general consulate in the US on Thursday, marking the 15th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The general consulate in Houston, Texas, is Vietnam's second in the US after the first in San Francisco, California.
The consulate will help companies in Houston learn about business opportunities in Vietnam, said Foreign Deputy Minister Ho Xuan Son.
General Consul Le Dung, a former spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, said Texas is home to around 450,000 overseas Vietnamese. The new Vietnam consulate will help boost the diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Texas and the US in general, he said.
