Vietnamese officials have been invited to visit a US aircraft carrier as it reached the area bordering Vietnam's territorial waters Saturday.

The officials were invited by the US Embassy in Vietnam to learn about the operation and life on the USS George Washington, which is on a trip around several Asia-Pacific countries, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

David Lausman, captain of the aircraft carrier, said that since June 4, it has traveled through Japan, Canada, Australia, Indonesia and Thailand and engaged in various activities to tighten the relationship between the US and the countries, especially in naval cooperation.

USS George Washington has also been used for medical, humanitarian and rescue purposes.
