The Vietnamese Navy Thursday inducted three new warships - one locally built and two from Russia - for sea patrol and protecting the nation's exclusive economic zone.

The Navy Zone 2 in the southern province of Dong Nai received the Vietnamese-made HQ-272, which is equipped with modern weapons and devices for patroling and fighting pirates.

The others were received by the Navy Zone 5 based in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang.

The Svetljak class patrol boats are designed for patrol missions to protect Vietnam's sovereignty over the sea and islands, a report on VnExpress said.
