The Vietnam Marine Police will set up a hotline with China's Ministry of Public Security and border administration to enable joint handling of maritime issues.
Major Nguyen Van Tuong, the agency's Political Commissar, said at a meeting in Hanoi Thursday that the two sides would also conduct joint patrols in the Gulf of Tonkin based on a 2000 border agreement.
Negotiations would also be held to establish a communications channel with the Cambodian maritime police, he said.
