Vietnam and India have signed two memoranda of understanding on information technology and telecommunications which the Indian IT and communications minister has described as representing a great leap in bilateral ties.
The signing took place following talks between Vietnam's Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son and India's Minister of Communications and Information Technology Kapil Sibal on July 4 in New Delhi, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The MoUs are for cooperation between Vietnam's Authority of Radio Frequency Management and India's Wireless Planning and Coordination and the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
Sibal said that the agreements provide a foundation for the two ministries to expand cooperation.
The two sides proposed setting up a joint committee with three members from each side representing IT, posts, and telecom to enhance cooperation.
Vietnam and India instituted a strategic partnership during a visit by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to India in 2007.
