Vietnam government gets new spokesman

The National Assembly, Vietnam's legislature, approved the promotion of a Central Communist Party Committee member to official spokesman for the government Thursday.

 

Nguyen Van Nen, deputy chief of the Communist Party's Department of Propaganda and Education, received 72.69 percent of deputy's votes to be the new minister and chairman of the Government Office.

 

Nen's predecessor, Vu Duc Dam, was elected deputy prime minister one day earlier.

 

Dam's predecessor, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, was also elected as a deputy prime minister in 2011.

 

Nen, 56, was nominated by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, who said Nen had been trained through various positions at the district,  provincial and central levels.

 

Nen has is the second minister in the government cabinet to have held the post of deputy chief of the Communist Party's Department of Propaganda and Education. The other is Minister of Information and Telecommunications Nguyen Bac Son.
