Vietnam condemns the terrorist bombing of the Iranian embassy in Lebanon that killed 23 people and wounded another 146 early this week, said a foreign ministry spokesman.

Le Hai Binh, vice spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was speaking at a press conference on Thursday.

"We would like to send our deep condolences to the victims' families, and we too think that people who committed the crime must be punished justly," he said.

On November 19 two suicide bombings took place near Iran's embassy in Beirut, for which a local group associated with al Qaeda, the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, have claimed responsibility, AFP reported.

An Iranian cultural attaché was identified among the fatalities.

The AFP report said fires engulfed cars outside the embassy and the facades of some buildings were blown away. Shattered glass covered the bloodied streets and some trees were uprooted, but the embassy's well-fortified building itself only sustained minor damage.
