Vietnam and China have agreed to resolve disputes in the East Sea through peaceful measures based on international law, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' spokeswoman was quoted as saying in Vietnamnet Tuesday.

According to Nguyen Phuong Nga, during a meeting lasting from July 29 till August 1 in Hanoi, the two countries agreed on several principles in resolving outstanding maritime territorial disputes as part of the seventh round of negotiations of an agreement reached previously.

Those issues that concern only China and Vietnam will be solved bilaterally, while issues involving other countries will be dealt with in multi-lateral forums, she said in the newswire.

Vietnam and China also agreed to organize the next round of negotiations this year, but the specifics will be discussed later via diplomatic channels, Nga said.
