US Assistant Secretary of State Puneet Talwar is in Hanoi to attend a Vietnam-US dialogue on politics, security and defense on January 22-23.
The two countries will “evaluate the progress of their comprehensive partnership and discuss issues of mutual concerns,” Foreign Ministry’s Deputy Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang told the media on January 22.
According to a statement of the US Department of State, the dialogue will “focus on bilateral cooperation in maritime security, peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, criminal justice and law enforcement sector cooperation, and regional security.”

Vietnam and the US, which will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations this year, has held seven such dialogues so far.
Assistant Secretary Talwar will also deliver remarks on U.S.-Vietnam security cooperation at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, according to the US statement.
