Two frigates from the Vietnam People’s Navy left Cam Ranh Port in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa on Wednesday for port visits to Southeast Asian countries.

They will call on Indonesia, Brunei and the Philippines as part of a series of friendly exchanges.

Rear Admiral Nguyen Van Kiem, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy, led 228 officers and sailors aboard the HQ-011 Dinh Tien Hoang and HQ-012 Ly Thai To.
The visits aim to enhance mutual understanding and trust between the Vietnam People’s Navy and the navies of the three countries, Kiem said.
The frigates’ crews will take part in friendship and exchange activities with officers and sailors from the three neighboring navies.
The two Gepard-class frigates were built by the Zelenodolsk shipyard in Russia through a contract with the Vietnamese Navy in 2011.
