Singapore Navy vessel visits Vietnam
Singapore Navy ship RSS Resolution arrived in the central city of Da Nang Tuesday for a four-day friendship visit.
The ship carrying 250 officers and sailors is docked at Tien Sa Port, and after a welcome ceremony, the crew will pay courtesy visits on the mayor and military authorities.
According to the Da Nang Department of Information and Communications, the visit is aimed at strengthening ties between Vietnam and Singapore.
On March 7 the vessel will take part in a joint exercise at sea with Vietnamese ships.
RSS Resolution is among four Endurance-class landing platform dock ships, the Singapore Navy's largest class of vessels.
Each ship is fitted with a well dock which can accommodate four landing craft and a flight deck which can accommodate two medium lift helicopters.
They carry personnel and equipment for the Singapore Armed Forces for overseas training, and serve as a training platform for the navy's midshipmen.
The vessels participate in various multilateral exercises annually and multinational peacekeeping efforts.
They have been involved in various humanitarian relief operations, such as in the tsunami-hit Indonesian province of Aceh in 2004.
