President gives offerings to nation's founders

President Nguyen Minh Triet and other high-ranking officials attended a festival in the northern province of Phu Tho Friday to commemorate the Hung Kings, the legenday founders of Vietnam.

 

The Hung kings' Festival, held on Nghia Linh Mountain, saw the attendance of thousands of people from all over the country as well as overseas Vietnamese who came to give offerings to the kings, local news website VnExpress reported.

 

According to Dai Viet su ky toan thu (The Complete Annals of Dai Viet) by Le Van Huu, 18 Hung kings ruled Van Lang, Vietnam's first state, between 2879 258 BC.

 

The ten-day festival, which begins annually on the first day of the third month on the Lunar Calendar, became a national holiday in 2007.
