Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Sunday met with visting former US president Bill Clinton and praised the latter's efforts to improve bilateral relations.
A report on the government website said PM Dung hailed Clinton's personal efforts to normalize and promote ties between Vietnam and the US. He also thanked Clinton and the Clinton Foundation for the assistance provided in combating climate change impacts and HIV/AIDS in Vietnam.
Clinton said Vietnam was playing an important role in the development of the region, but was now faced with challenges in the environment, human resource development and healthcare.
He pledged to facilitate cooperation between both countries to develop infrastructure projects, fight climate change, apply new technology and launch more healthcare and education programs.
