The State Commission on Overseas Vietnamese has received VND500 million (US$24,120) from overseas Vietnamese who want to support residents and soldiers on the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago.

The money came from people from the US, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain and Thailand, who visited the Vietnamese islands in the East Sea last month.

The forty overseas Vietnamese, or Viet Kieu, from 20 countries were among a delegation of 220 people who visited the islands, including representatives from the six major religions in Vietnam, students and government officials, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reported.
