As the Communist Party is about to convene its national congress this week to select the country's top leaders, an official has said that there is no age limit for the position of general secretary.
“The Party's general secretary must be the most outstanding person... There is no age limit for this position,” Le Quang Vinh, Deputy Chief of the Party Central Committee’s Office, told news website Zing Monday.
The 12th National Party Congress will be held in Hanoi from January 20-28. A total of 1,510 delegates representing more than 4.5 million Party members nationwide will attend.
During a press conference in Hanoi on Monday after the launching ceremony of a press center dedicated to the congress, Truong Minh Tuan, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, advised the public not to rely on reports circulated on the Internet and make any assumption about top political posts.
Tuan also said that the official selections will only be announced after the congress concludes.
At the congress, the Central Committee of the 12th tenure will be elected.
The congress is also expected to review 30 years of economic reforms and set orientations and goals for the country’s development in the next five years.
