The new American Ambassador to Vietnam arrived in Hanoi August 20.
"I look forward to my new assignment as US Ambassador to Vietnam," said David Bruce Shear.
"The United States and Vietnam have achieved great progress in bilateral and regional cooperation in recent years, and I hope to build on that progress by working closely with our Vietnamese partners."
According to a press release from the American Embassy in Hanoi, Ambassador Shear's State Department career spans almost thirty years. He specializes in the East Asian and Pacific region.
Before Vietnam, he was Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs at the Department of State in Washington. Prior to that he was Deputy Chief of Mission in Kuala Lumpur and worked in Sapporo, Beijing, Tokyo, and Washington D.C.
