Vietnamese and Japanese coast guards took part in a joint search and rescue exercise in the central city of Da Nang before a Japanese ship wrapped up its five-day visit to the city on Thursday afternoon.
The 59-strong crew aboard the Japan Coast Guard’s Yashima PLH 22 was invited onboard a Vietnam Coast Guard’s vessel for a tour in the morning.
The Yashima PLH22 docked at Da Nang’s Tien Sa Port on May 10. During the visit, the coast guards of the two countries held meetings to exchange and share experiences in anti-pirate patrols, search and rescue as well as in tackling drugs-related crimes. They also discussed maritime security threats and measures to ensure regional maritime safety.
The visit aims to promote understanding and friendship among Coast Guard Forces between Viet Nam and Japan.
It is the third time a Japan Coast Guard vessel visited Vietnam.
