Hanoi celebrates 70th anniversary of National Day

A series of photos show how the capital city and its people mark the country's historic day on Wednesday


Many people rise up and walk towards streets which are part of the National Day parade's route at 3 a.m.  
  Water and flags are distributed to people for free.
  Many come to watch the parade, even though they live far from the city's center like this family who are from Dan Phuong District, which is about 20 kilometers away.
  People sit or stand along downtown streets at 6 a.m., one hour before the ceremony starts.

  More than 30,000 people take part in the parade.
  They walk through more than 40 streets which have been closed to vehicles since 9 p.m. the day before.
